Getting to us from Blakehurst
The training room is at 18 Station Street, Kogarah – about 7 minutes from Blakehurst, north along the Princes Highway and into Kogarah, then a right into Station Street. It is a short and straightforward run at almost any time of day.
Blakehurst has no railway station. Kogarah and Carlton on the T4 Illawarra line are the closest, and buses run along the Princes Highway towards Kogarah and Hurstville. Most Blakehurst participants drive, and there is street parking on Station Street and the surrounding blocks plus the public car parks in Kogarah town centre. Kogarah fills up early because of St George Hospital traffic, so allow ten minutes more than the map estimate on a course morning.

On a boat, the CPR problem is space and a second pair of hands
Performing effective compressions on a vessel is harder than on land for reasons that have nothing to do with technique: there is rarely a firm flat surface, there is rarely room to kneel beside the casualty properly, and there is often only one other person on board. The practical answer taught in the course is to get the casualty onto the firmest flat area available – a cockpit floor rather than a bunk – and to accept that compressions on a soft surface lose much of their effect. If you are alone, call for help first on the radio or by phone so that assistance is already moving while you work.
The second point is about time. Marine retrieval takes longer than a road ambulance, which means the person doing CPR may be doing it for a long stretch. Two rescuers swapping every couple of minutes maintain far better compression quality than one rescuer persisting alone, and the swap technique – changing over without a pause – is practised in the course precisely because it is the thing that degrades first when people are tired.
