Hands-on CPR and first aid training for Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills is a King Georges Road suburb: a long commercial strip either side of the station with one of the more established restaurant and food retail precincts in the St George area, backed by dense residential streets and a strong community and club life. The people who book a CPR course in Beverly Hills reflect that – a lot of hospitality staff, a lot of small business owners who are the only person on site, a lot of parents, and the childcare and aged care services that sit through the residential streets.
CPR Plus First Aid runs nationally recognised CPR, first aid and education and care first aid courses for all of them at our training room at 18 Station Street, Kogarah, about ten minutes away. Every session is practical rather than theoretical: compressions and rescue breaths on adult and infant manikins, training defibrillator use, the recovery position, and scenario work built on situations that genuinely happen – a collapse in a restaurant, a choking incident, a casualty found unresponsive in a back room.

Getting to us from Beverly Hills
Our room is at 18 Station Street, Kogarah – roughly 10 minutes from Beverly Hills. The simplest drive is King Georges Road south to the Princes Highway, then into Kogarah and a right into Station Street. It is a short, familiar run for most locals, and even in the morning peak it holds up reasonably well.
By train it is slightly less direct than the distance suggests, because Beverly Hills sits on the T8 Airport and South line while Kogarah is on the T4 Illawarra line – so the trip involves a change at Wolli Creek. It is still comfortably under half an hour door to door. If you drive, there is street parking on Station Street and in the blocks around it, plus the public car parks in Kogarah town centre. Kogarah is busy from early because of St George Hospital traffic, so allow ten minutes more than you think you need.
Who we train in Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills bookings tend to come from:
- Restaurant, cafe and food retail staff from the King Georges Road strip, often the only trained person on a shift
- Small business owners and sole traders who need a certificate for insurance, licensing or peace of mind
- Early childhood educators and OOSH staff from centres across Beverly Hills and Narwee who need HLTAID012
- Aged care and disability support workers, plus in-home carers working alone with clients
- Medical, dental and allied health reception and practice staff along the strip
- Community and religious group volunteers running activities for older members
- Parents and grandparents who want infant and child CPR practice
Choking in a restaurant: the part people get wrong
For a suburb built around food, choking is the incident most likely to happen in front of you, and the most commonly mishandled. The key judgement is whether the airway is partially or completely blocked. If the person can cough, speak or make noise, the obstruction is partial and the priority is to encourage coughing rather than intervene – a well-meant back blow at the wrong moment can turn a partial blockage into a complete one. If they cannot cough, speak or breathe, that is a complete obstruction and it needs immediate action.
Australian Resuscitation Council guidance taught in the course uses back blows between the shoulder blades rather than abdominal thrusts as the first response for a conscious adult with a complete obstruction, with chest thrusts if back blows fail. The technique differs again for an infant, which is covered on the infant manikin. Getting this sequence right is a genuinely practical skill for anyone working on a food strip, and it is exactly the sort of thing that fades without practice.
Why people in Beverly Hills train with us
Classes stay small so every participant gets meaningful time on a manikin. Trainers are qualified professionals with practical emergency response experience and teach through demonstration and scenario work rather than reading slides.
Training is nationally recognised, delivered on behalf of and in partnership with Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909, with CPR content following current Australian Resuscitation Council guidance. Beverly Hills businesses, centres and community groups can also have a trainer attend their own premises – useful for a restaurant that cannot close in the middle of the week.
The team at CPR Plus First Aid were super easy to deal with, concise and clear communication and the teacher was engaging, informative and logistical.Umesh, Security Officer
