CPR and first aid training built for a beachside suburb
Cronulla is the only Sydney beach suburb with its own railway station, and on a hot weekend the population of the beachfront bears very little resemblance to the number of people who live there. Between the patrolled beaches, the ocean pool, the wharf and the ferry, the Cronulla Street strip and the cafes along the esplanade, there is a genuinely high chance that someone in Cronulla will need resuscitation in a public place – and a reasonable chance that the nearest person able to start it is a lifesaver, a cafe supervisor or a passer-by rather than a paramedic.
That is the context we teach in. CPR Plus First Aid runs nationally recognised CPR, first aid and education and care first aid courses for Cronulla residents, surf clubs, swim schools, businesses and community groups. Sessions are hands-on throughout: compressions and rescue breaths on adult and infant manikins, training defibrillator use, the recovery position, and scenario work that includes the situations a coastal suburb actually produces.

Course fees
Fees are $50.00 for HLTAID009 Provide CPR, $100.00 for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and $110.00 for HLTAID012 in an education and care setting. Those are per-person prices – if you are booking a Cronulla group, ask for a quote rather than multiplying.

Getting to us from Cronulla
The training room is at 18 Station Street, Kogarah – about 22 minutes and 15.6 km from Cronulla by car, out along the Kingsway then north on the Princes Highway over Tom Uglys Bridge. It is the longest drive of any Shire suburb on our list, and the Kingsway plus the bridge approach are both slow in the morning peak, so give yourself more room than the map suggests.
The train removes all of that. Cronulla station is the terminus of the T4 branch and Kogarah is on the same line, so it is a single service with no changes, and you walk two minutes from Kogarah station to Station Street. For a full-day first aid course this is comfortably the better option. If you do drive, there is street parking on Station Street and the blocks around it plus the public car parks in Kogarah town centre – the area is busy from early because of hospital traffic, so allow an extra ten minutes.

Drowning is not treated like a cardiac collapse – and that matters in Cronulla
A drowning casualty has a hypoxic arrest: the underlying problem is a lack of oxygen rather than an electrical rhythm problem. That changes the emphasis. Rescue breaths are more important than they are in a standard adult cardiac collapse, and compression-only CPR – which is a perfectly reasonable fallback for a bystander who will not do breaths on a stranger in the street – is a weaker option for someone pulled from the water. Australian Resuscitation Council guidance is taught in the course, and the practical assessment includes rescue breaths on both adult and infant manikins for exactly this reason.
The other Cronulla-specific point: get the casualty out of the water before starting compressions. Effective compressions cannot be delivered in the water, and time spent attempting them there is time the casualty does not have. The course covers the handover sequence too – what to tell the ambulance service, what to keep doing while you wait, and how to work with a second rescuer so that compressions do not stop.

Where is the nearest CPR course to Cronulla?

Do you run CPR refreshers for surf clubs?
Yes. A trainer attends your clubhouse with manikins and training defibrillators and runs the session there. Pre-season is the busiest period for these bookings, so contact us early if you need a particular weekend.
Is the CPR technique different for a drowning?
The emphasis is. A drowning casualty is hypoxic, so rescue breaths matter more than in a standard cardiac collapse, and the course practical includes rescue breaths on adult and infant manikins. Get the casualty out of the water before starting compressions.
What does the course cost?
HLTAID009 Provide CPR is $50.00 and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, which includes the same CPR content plus bleeding, burns, fractures, asthma and anaphylaxis, is $100.00. HLTAID012 for education and care settings is $110.00.
How often should CPR be renewed?
For HLTAID009 the provider states a 12-month certificate validity period. Patrol and pool-based roles in Cronulla generally work to that annual cycle regardless of what a broader first aid certificate says.
Can hospitality staff do a shorter course?
HLTAID009 is the short option and covers resuscitation only. If your venue wants someone who can also manage a burn, a bad cut or an allergic reaction, HLTAID011 is the better fit – see the Provide First Aid course page.
