Practical CPR and first aid training for the Sutherland Shire

The Shire has a particular relationship with resuscitation. It is surrounded by water – Port Hacking, the Georges River, Cronulla and Wanda beaches, Gunnamatta Bay, the pools and swim schools that seem to sit on every second corner – and it has one of the strongest surf life saving and volunteer cultures in the country. CPR Plus First Aid runs nationally recognised CPR, first aid and childcare first aid courses that Shire residents and workplaces can reach easily. The training room is at 18 Station Street, Kogarah, just north of the Georges River, and it is on the same T4 rail line as the Cronulla branch – so Sutherland, Gymea, Miranda, Caringbah and Cronulla all have a direct trip with no changes. For workplaces, childcare centres, schools, clubs and community groups, a trainer can come to you anywhere in the Shire instead.

Every session is built around practice. You work on adult and infant manikins, use a training defibrillator, and run through the scenarios that actually happen locally – a collapse at a sports ground, a near-drowning at a pool, a child choking, an unresponsive casualty found in a car park or a stockroom.

Getting from the Shire to our Kogarah training room

By car, almost every route from the Shire is the Princes Highway north over Tom Uglys Bridge, then into Kogarah. From Miranda and Caringbah, the Kingsway takes you onto the Highway. From Sutherland it is the Princes Highway the whole way. From Cronulla, the Kingsway then the Highway. From Sylvania you are barely over the bridge before you arrive. Allow extra time in the morning peak, because the bridge and the Highway approach both slow down.

By train there are no changes. Cronulla, Woolooware, Caringbah, Miranda, Gymea, Kirrawee and Sutherland are all on the T4 line, and so is Kogarah – you stay on the same train and walk a couple of minutes from Kogarah station to Station Street. For a full-day first aid course this is usually the better choice, because it removes both the drive and the parking question.

If you do drive, there is street parking on Station Street and the blocks around it, plus the public car parks in Kogarah town centre. Kogarah fills up early because of hospital traffic, so build in ten minutes of buffer rather than arriving on the hour. Accessible parking and drop-off are close to the door – let us know when you book if a participant needs it.

Group, workplace and onsite training

We come to you. A trainer attends your site with manikins, training defibrillators and consumables and runs the course in your own space – a clubhouse, a staff room, a hall, a centre. Across the Shire this is the most common way we deliver training to surf clubs, swim schools, childcare centres, OOSH services and school staff groups.
